About Me

Born in Stepping Hill Hospital in 1990 I have lived almost my entire life in the High Peak.

I grew up in Hadfield and Simmondley, went to Simmondley Primary School and Glossopdale Community College and lived in Charlesworth for five years with my fiancee before we moved to Dinting, got married and welcomed the birth of our daughter.

I obtained a 1st Class MChem (Hons) in Chemistry with Industrial Experience from the University of Manchester in 2012. My degree gave me the fantastic opportunity to spend 14 months working for one of the largest chemical companies in the world, Intertek, at the old ICI site in Blackley. Whilst I did live in Manchester for some of the 4 years of my degree I stayed in touch with the High Peak by working in Glossop, for Woolworths and Card Factory, and by getting involved in the fantastic work of High Peak Liberal Democrats in April 2011. I then studied for a PhD in Nanoscience via the North West Nanoscience Doctoral Training Centre, based in the Centre for Nanoporous Materials at the University of Manchester, whilst also finding time to teach the next cohorts of Chemistry undergraduates, take science outreach activities to schools all over the High Peak and Greater Manchester and volunteer with the Royal Society of Chemistry.

After obtaining my PhD I worked as Researcher in Atmospheric Chemistry and in 2D Material Nanocomposites at the University of Manchester.

I am now a Lecturer in Chemistry at Aston University where I both teach undergraduate students and lead a small research group focused on developing nanomaterials for energy storage.
